Mainly known as Microdermabrasion (MDA), is a dermato surgical procedure used for mechanical exfoliation of skin. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure performed by the dermatologists.
Used For Which Conditions– Aging and Photoaging
– Acne scar
– Periorbital wrinkles
– For blocked pore
It is based on the use of aluminium oxide crystals for dermabrasion. The crystals are released on the skin at high pressure by the apparatus. This in turn removes the outermost layer of the stratum corneum from epidermis. These crystals are non-toxic, non carcinogenic, small in size and safe to use.
The next generation MDA unit is diamond tome MDA. These devices have rotating tips embedded with small diamonds.
Post-Procedure Precautions– Application of sunscreen
– Use of mild soap
– Use of moisturizer
– No facial bleaching
– Harsh cosmetics should be avoided
It is relatively mild procedure with no significant side-effects. However the person may experience mild redness.
Some Other Techniques1. Ultrasound Microdermabrasion, devices use a dull spatula blade with ultrasonic vibration to disrupt the stratum corneum. Ultrasound Phonophoration, relies on quartz crystal within a transducer, there by producing ultrasonic pressure waves.
2. Hydradermabrasion, also called oxypeel, works similar to MDA, but uses combinations of oxygen and aqueous solutions at supersonic speeds to remove debris and dead cells. This is a better way because the skin keeps getting hydrated as well. There is less irritation, reduced discomfort and quick recovery.
